Some insurance companies have contracts with repair facilities and use this method as a way to save themselves money. No insurance company, independent agent, representative, appraiser, adjuster or staff member of an insurance company can legally force you to take your vehicle to any specific repair facility or require repairs be made by a specific shop or individual.

You are only required to furnish one estimate for the repair cost.
The Insurance company handling the claim issue the claim number when the accident is reported.
It means that it would not be cost effective to have the vehicle repaired due to the damages it sustained. Typically this occurs when repairs exceed 80% of the vehicles current value.
We will provide you with an estimated date of delivery. Each collision repair is unique and sometimes additional damage is found during the tear down process, which will effect the completion date. Parts availability can also effect the completion date. We will keep you informed through out the repair process.
Deductibles are determined by your insurance policy. Insurance companies determine who is at fault based on the accident report that is filed. If another party accepts fully liability, your deductible may be waived.
Parts that wear out and need replacement with time and use (i.e., tires, batteries, and suspension parts) are commonly subject to betterment charges when they are replaced during the repair process. (Example: If your tire has 50% of the tread remaining, you would owe for the 50% of the tire that has been used) These betterment charges are determined by your insurance company and are pro-rated based on actual miles and age of your vehicle.
All insurance companies have different guidelines and may require the usage of alternative parts.
Depending on the type of repair body filler may be used. When Properly used, body filler is a great tool(usually mandatory) when working with and finishing sheet metal repairs(NOT PLASTICS).
